Open State Cavity Barrier COSB-25

COSB 25

Ventilated facade systems are designed with a continuous air gap in the cavity to manage moisture. In normal conditions that gap must remain open. In the event of fire, it becomes a route for flames and hot smoke to travel up the building.

The COSB-25 is an open state cavity barrier that maintains the required air gap under normal conditions and seals it when a fire occurs. It sits within the cavity in its resting state, keeping airflow unobstructed. When exposed to heat, a high expansion intumescent strip expands to close off the 25mm air gap between the barrier and the inner face of the facade.

The product combines non-combustible high-density stone wool with the intumescent strip and is supplied either red or black polythene shrink wrapped, or foil encapsulated. Galvanised steel brackets are supplied as standard; stainless steel is available separately.

Where should you use Open State Cavity Barrier COSB25?

Use the COSB-25 in ventilated rainscreen facade systems where the specified air gap is 25mm. This applies to both masonry and steel frame (SFS) substrates. The barrier reinstates the horizontal fire resistance of the facade at each barrier line, allowing moisture to dissipate under normal conditions while reacting rapidly in a fire to close off the air gap and prevent the spread of flames and hot smoke.

The COSB-25 range is compliant with current market requirements and has been tested to the general principles of EN1363-1 and in accordance with ASFP TGD19. The fire resistance performance varies depending on the substrate and cavity depth. See the technical data sheet for full performance data by application.

The COSB-25 is not suitable for full-fill cavity applications. If your system has a 44mm air gap, see the COSB-44.

Key points:

Intended Use:

PFC Corofil Open State Barriers are designed to reinstate the horizontal fire resistance performance of facades which have been designed to maintain a continuous air flow around the building and must accommodate a continuous air gap at the cavity barrier, allowing moisture to dissipate under normal circumstances, but reacting in the event of fire to rapidly close off the air gap to help prevent the spread of fire and hot smoke.

The fire resistance performance varies depending on the barrier used and the application it is installed within. PFC Corofil Open State Barrier range is compliant to current market requirements and has been tested to the general principles of EN1363-1 and in accordance with ASFP Technical Guidance Document 19 (TGD 19).
